Ayurveda Pura, North Greenwich
“Mens sana in corpore sano” –
A sound Mind in a sound body.
My Indian roots are embedded deep when it comes to believing in keeping my mind, body and soul healthy. I ensure my yoga is tied into my daily routine and being primarily a vegetarian (I love Salmon- so make an exception occasionally) ensures I maintain that healthy balance. It was not until recently that my friend – a fellow yogi and PR for well being- introduced me to the small yet beautiful ayurvedic centre in North Greenwich – Ayurveda Pura. They invited me for one of the best holistic massages I have had in London.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is the India version of Chinese Traditional medicine. The principles are similar of ensuring your body is balanced to its most optimum form by ensuring perfect equilibrium with nature. Ayurveda is based on the premise that the universe is made up of five elements: air, fire, water, earth and ether. These elements are represented in humans by three “doshas“, or energies: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. When any of the doshas accumulate in the body beyond the desirable limit, the body loses its balance. Ayurveda states that a balance of the three elemental substances, the Doshas, equals health, while imbalance equals disease. If you would like to read more: Click here.
I walked in the serene space of AYURVEDA PURA and was immediately welcomed by the aroma of home cooked food – thanks to the small cafe at the front of the spa. Next was meeting the Spa Manager, Colette, a South African Yogi who showed me around and introduced me to Ayurveda Pura. A short analysis of feeling my pulse, and asking me very basic questions- Colette told me my primary dosha was Pitta, with Kapha creating havoc in my equilibrium. I was asked to get ready for my massage and before we started I was given a brief explanation of what oils we are using with what motion of massages. It was informative but also very logical. Soon I was in deep slumber for what seemed to be forever- but was only 60 minutes. Finished with a shower to remove excess oil from your body to prevent staining your clothes- I was given a cup of the Spa’s own Award winning herbal tea (SHOP HERE). Browsing through the rest of the store I was introduced to Ayurveda Pura Academy, and its own label of multi award-winning Ayurvedic health and beauty products – a range of herbal teas, food supplements and an Ayurvedic skincare range Holistic Essentials. Dr. Deepa Apté, a doctor, Yoga teacher and Ayurvedic Practitioner is the the founder of Ayurveda Pura and it is commendable how she she has ensured the essence of Ayurveda is protected whilst producing high quality beauty and well being products under the label.
I loved the place so much that I have organised a 10% discount for all of my readers. Just make sure you quote “TREND BRIDGED” when you book online. Have you had any other Ayurvedic experiences in London? Do share!
