Isabella Blow Fashion Galore! Somerset House
Weekend spent in 3 museums covering 4 exhibitions,3 cafés,2 design shops and loads of walking!!
I have finally quit my job on the weekends and I just realised had 48 hours added a week to myself which I had no idea what I could do with!
So I got my girlfriends and I a ticket each to Isabella Blow:Fashion Galore! in Somerset house,Then across the bridge at South Bank centre to see Ana Mandeita and Dayanita Singh and walking further East down the river to the Design Museum to see Hello My name is Paul Smith!
Of course we ate, talked a lot,did a bit of street style and just realised yet again how lucky are we to be living in London at the prime of our youths!
Isabella Blow:Fashion Galore! Somerset House
I recommend this exhibit with all my heart!
The show is curated by Alistair O’Neill, a Sr. Research Fellow at Central Saint Martins (who also curated Valentino: Master of Couture earlier this year) and Shonagh Marshall. Blow’s relationship with her most famous protégés, designers Alexander McQueen and Philip Treacy can be seen throughout the exhibition. Keep 2-3 hours in case you like to linger on each piece and see all the movies and appreciate the beautiful work of Alexander McQueen and Philip Treacy which is exhibited alongside the idiosyncrasies of Isabella Blow, for e.g.
1.Lizzie Blow had many sizes of the same shoe and often wore them mismatched.
2.She befriended Andy Worhal, when the latter spotted her wearing hoofed shoes.
3.She wrote only with a pink pen.
4.She asked Hussein Chalayan to take his first collection immediately with her filled in Black Bin Liners,to Brown Fashion, only to start showcasing his work a week.
You are not allowed to take pictures there, but don’t forget to carry your notebook for ideas and illustrations.
Some of the best videos are from the graduate collections of Alexander McQueen, Treacy, Chalayan.
P.s: On the 2nd level, there is this extension of the exhibition which I almost missed, but make sure you get in there and see of Isabella Blow’s editorial work and best looks (Pictured below)
On till 2nd March 2014, I recommend booking tickets before you head there. BOOK HERE.
